Welcome to my website for ex pat Brits living in America. My name is Andrew and I have lived in the USA since 1990. Since arriving I have become fervently patriotic for the country that I left behind. Has anybody else experienced similar tendencies ?So upon arriving I became hungry for news from back home. The internet was in it's infancy at that time so I relied on a subscrition to the International Express which was a weekly publication by Express newspapers that compiled a newspaper particularly for expats working or living abroad (anyone know if it's still in existence ?) . It was mailed to you and gave you news of the week in one edition but of course by the time it arrived it was up to 2 weeks out of date.

I invested in a short wave radio and tuned in to the BBC World Service for the sports results and news from home. I fondly remember walking outside with the radio and it's long extended aerial to my ear turning it in all directions trying to pick up a better signal. Then at last I bought an internet capable computer and joined the World Wide Web. Still in the early 90's news web sites were difficult to find but it was much better than waiting two weeks (do you still get those funny looks when you say a fortnight ?) for the International Express to arrive. In a way it was like being a Pioneer arriving in an undeveloped country and gradually seeing your World become civilized.Of course now we can log on to billions of websites including your local newspaper at home, I even listen live to Radio Birmingham (did I say I am a Brummie ?) and it just makes it seem more acceptable. I now can talk to family and friends for hours on end for free through my VOIP system, those with computers can even see me on my webcam as I use Instant Messaging. We now live in a brand New World thanks to the internet and I hope this website gives you an insight to what can be achieved for the ex-pat living in America.

The Best of British
